Unbridled export of cotton and cotton yarn is adversely affecting the value added apparel export units and if situation persisted it would lead to closure of these units.
“Current situation will render huge number of workers jobless causing mass unemployment and serious law & order situation,” Chairman Pakistan Apparel Forum, Javed Bilwani, said on Friday. He said export commitment against orders for the Christmas season has already been seriously jeopardised as a result of acute shortage and non-availability of cotton yarn. He said that sector is already struggling against heavy odds in the face of stiff competition from neighbouring and other competing countries to establish foothold in the international market and several exporters have made firm commitments with their foreign buyers to ensure timely deliveries. However, he said due to acute yarn shortage scenario large number of our exporters will be compelled by their buyers to make air shipments at great loss to them. He appealed to government to stop the unbridled export of cotton and cotton yarn to save the value added apparel sector. staff report Source: Daily Times |
